Bass pro xps extsream

Happy new year to all.

I'm a long time lurker who has learned a lot from this newsgroup over the
years. I've been bass fishing for nearly 50 years and I'm still learning. I
had the pleasure of hooking up with Warren this past summer and got a few
pointers while I watched him catch a 1/2 dozen bass in about 40 minutes to
my 0.

Does anyone have an opinion on the Bass Pro extream XPS spinning rods. I
prefer Shimano & St Croix.
The only BP rod I've ever had is the bionic blade and it seemed a middle of
the road rod.

Thought I'd ask before I buy.

Your preferences makes perfect sense to me. You can't get a whole lot
better than Shimano and St. Croix. The Tournament and Legend Elite series
are awesome, but some people object to the price. Their Avid series is a
great compromise between quality and price.

Don't know about the spinning rods, but the casting rods are pretty nice.

I have lots of St Croix rods in both spinning and bait casting. Some
premiers and some avids. Both are very nice. Sorry, have not used any xps
xtremes from BPS, but my BPS Bionic Blades I thought were middle of the road
and slightly heavier than comparable St Croix Premiers for close to the same
price.

If you can afford it by St Croix Avids. If you need to save a couple bucks
buy the St Croix Premiers.

Believe it or not, I used to own some BPS Extreme rods. I thought they felt
awfully tip heavy and somewhat "clubby". The sensitivity was decent enough,
and they were durable, but I just didn't like the feel of them.

I still say that my first bass caught on a worm was due to this rod. Then
again, before that I was using an Ugly Stik! (Never caught anything on that
damn rod....)

Ugly Sticks are best suited for uses where sensitivity is not an issue, such
as trolling or livebait fishing for catfish. Like I said about the Extreme
Rods, the sensitivity is decent, but I just don't like the balance of the
rod. It's not a St. Croix, that's for certain.

Thanks to all of you for the info. This place is like a University of bass
knowledge.
I think I'll pass on the xps and go with another St Croix.
I also like the fact that they are American made.
