Every Summer, I move from the south to the north for 3 months. In my
southern home state, big bass are the norm. I never catch many. A lot has to do with the fact that I rarely fish for them. I'm usually in sal****er bays. The few that I've caught have been in the 3 to 6 lb range, and those were usually with the aid of a guide, or a knowledgeable local friend. Now, I am in the frozen North ( Wisconsin) and, in one week, I've caught more bass from 2 1/2 to 6 lbs. then I caught in 24 years in the South. They love topwaters; they fight like hell... I can't believe how many 4/5/ 6 lbs bass I'm catching up here. Is this normal?? have I just found a good spot with a lot of dumb fish?? I've never had the results like today or a few days ago. 6 bass 2 1/2 to 3 lbs in a 2 hour morning and 1 1/2 hour evening stint. They hit topwaters like they never saw one before. Now, a lot of the guys on this lake fish leeches on the bottom. They must do OK since they all do it. I can't sit still that long. Tell me , what is realistic for Wisconsin/Michigan etc. type lakes this time of the year? RichG -- manager, Carolina Skiff Owners Group on MSN http://groups.msn.com/CarolinaSkiffOwners |

If you get homesick and want to catch less bass, head on over to Boom lake.
On a sunny day you will feel like you never left the south. Better yet join us there for the 2004 NWC this September!! i don't know much about WI but this morning in Pennsylvania I caught and released 11 keeper bass between 2-4 lbs in about three hours. Rich, ya hit a good week,
They like all the stuff you throw elsewhere. Maybe the pressure of skiers and such was low. Bass are an underutilized resource in Wisconsin where the walleye and muskie are the sought after gamefish. And that's just the way I like it. You're experiencing good bass fishing, without a doubt, but nothing exceptional for what this state has to offer. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

re "What lake? etc. etc." I'm not telling.
I can see a lot of water skiers and they think nothing of coming with-in 50 feet of an anchored boat. Fishing boats are anchored twenty feet apart. I can imagine how much room the other fishermen would give me if they thought I was on to fish. I hide my catches by turning my back to the other boats when I quietly pull one out. I'm happy to share this...5 or 6 or 7 feet of water; weeds..yes.. but not growing all of the way to the top. I set up a Texas style long drift depending on which way the wind is blowing; casting long casts way ahead of the boat. It would appear that no one else fishes that way here. Maybe that is a small part of my "luck". RichG TX-WI manager, Carolina Skiff Owners Group on MSN http://groups.msn.com/CarolinaSkiffOwners "BradS" wrote in message gy.com...
