Yes, I do have some interesting neighbors. I know all the characters in
the story, including the author, but I was out of town during the event.

I don't know, but real estate is pretty expensive here.

The fencing, where the herd is by the river, looked rather peculiar to
a midwesterner. Is there some purpose to it? It can't be that
elaborate just for looks.

Often taunted by trout. Almost entirely harmless. Really.

Don't ask me what time it is lest I'm of
a mood to tell you how to make a clock.

That style of worm fencing is common here -- even typical. We have LOTS
of lodgepole pine, so it's economical. The fact that it's pretty is a
side benefit.

The rancher (Jay Neider) probably wouldn't have bothered with a fence if
there weren't a requirement to keep his damn cows out of the Salmon River.

Makes for an interesting look. I can see that the cheap pine would be
a good start on it, but the labor market must be cheap, too, as it has
to cost more than straight fencing as far as hours of work.

He sure has a full stomach.

I've only spotted wolves twice in the Stanley area (but heard them
often), so I was sorry I missed this event.

In very rocky soil, a buck and pole fence actually takes much less labor
than digging all of those post holes, or driving t-posts.
