Here in the Southern Hemisphere Winter is settling in and we've had a
few serious cold fronts. I'm fishing a tournament in a small dam and need some advice as to what strategies I should use. Water temperatures have plummeted and water levels are up. (The water will probably be a little strained.) The fish are mainly Northern strain largemouths. |

Hard Jerkbaits, x-raps and lucky crafts should produce in colder water.
How cold is that water? JMO by the way |

As for the exact water temperature, I'm not sure. I'm guessing it will be hovering between the 45-50 degree F mark. I've never really been all that confident in my cold water fishing prowess. |

As for the exact water temperature, I'm not sure. I'm guessing it will be
hovering between the 45-50 degree F mark. That's not too cold. Suspending jerk baits on a 5-10 second pause (the longer the better), Spoons, crankbaits that will get to the bottom in the 10-15' range or deeper with a stop and go retrieve. slow rolled spinnerbaits with a silver Colorado blade in white/chart if really cloudy, add a chartreuse trailer to it (trailer hook is a must) but keep it on the bottom and crank it very slow, even a yo-yo retrieve will be effective. I've been consistent in the cold with the slow rolled spinnerbait and a blue/chartreuse deep diving crankbait floating off the bottom. There's my 2 cents. |
