I didn't go out today yet because the mercury hit 58 this morning so were
freezing here. I read on MSNBC Buffalo got slammed last night and they
have 155,000 without power. Amazing.

LOL, at 58, I'm still wearing shorts and sandals. As I type this, it has
"warmed up" to 33 degrees and I'm looking out the office window to snow
falling, with 3 inches already on the ground.

Well I hope you enjoy the snow and it stays up there. As I have worked all
over the U.S. I've noticed that people up in the Northern States are more
adept to the cold than we are here in the deep south. I applaud your stamina
and I am grateful and do thank God its you there and not me!

No, unfortunately, with the snow, Janet is reluctant to try her new crutches
on snowy surfaces. So, after having my stress test this morning, I opened
her coffee shop and spent the afternoon dispensing coffee and smart alec
remarks. Possibly Sunday though.....

It would be great if you did get that job, Tennessee is a nice area and I
wouldn't mind relocating there, although inside of two weeks, I'd be talking
funny!

When I lived in Guntersville, Alabama one of my old college
roommates flew into Huntsville for a visit and our first stop
out of the airport was the liquor store because Marshall County
was dry. He couldn't understand the clerk, the clerk couldn't
understand him, I had to interpret English to drawl and drawl
to English to facilitate a booze for travelers check transaction.
It was hilarious.

Regional preferences usually determine how the fish is called. I've heard
pomoxis annularis called sac-au-lait ("sack of milk") in Louisiana,
papermouth in the lower Midwest, and white perch in other places. In East
Tennessee, it's called crappie and is pronounced the way it usually
appears
in American dictionaries: 'krä-pE or krp, (or as Marty spelled it,
CROP-ee).

Interesting. You're sort of right. I said the pronunciation was CRAP-ee
based on my Random House dictionary. When I saw your post I checked a few
online dictionaries and it's a split decision. In my brief survey, it
appears that a small majority showed CROP-ee. So the bottom line is I don't
know the official pronunciation or maybe we have two pronunciations, either
of which is correct.

But I'll make no concession on those red things from the vine: it's
toh-MAY-toh, never toh-MAH-toh. :-)

Well here goes.....We don't say toh-may-toh....We call em
toh-mait-ers...Just like POH-taters.... We eat maters on bread for a
sandwich with LOTS of black pepper as well as frying GREEN ones....There is
nothing better than a pan full of fried green tomaters...That is unless its
a pan full of fried crappie complete with fried taters OR cheese grits and
hushpuppies made with beer batter.(Old Milwaukee Beer seems to have the best
cooking flavor to me).

(My spell checker just called me an uneducated imbasull.)

Yeah, we're working on getting the site moved to a new server and it's
taking longer than I anticipated.
