Right shoulder is on the mend after my sawbones sawed off the last 1 inch
of the clavicle. It's been 5 weeks now since the operation. A buildup of
arthritis was the problem, and, it seems I have the same problem with
arthritis on the left shoulder, so he's gonna slice and dice me on 19 Dec.
Given the amount of Vicodin I have (and will) ingest, this winter will
just be a happy blur. Hearing is deteriorating so hearing tests are
scheduled for next week, probably a hearing aid in my future. (brother
Tom
and my son already have hearing aids)

It's a pity to waste Vicodin on pain. :-)

I've taken lots and lots of Vicodin, over the years for my back, and I have
never gotten even a touch of a buzz? It is merely a pain blocker for me. I
have talked to others who say that it messes with their minds, though. It
has never affected me in that way though? and I have taken as many as 4 at a
time, when my first back issues began. I must say, had it not been for
liberal amounts of Vicodin, before my first surgeries, I would certainly
have shot myself. Seriously. The pain I experience now is very difficult
and I have no pain meds at all. I simply have constant pain (not extreme
pain, though at times it is very painful) and an inability to use my hands.
According to my, new family doc, narcotics won't touch nerve pain. I have
every reason to believe her, because I was getting hydrocodone (Vicodin
generic--I think the tabs were imprinted with 650 something or other) and it
had no effect whatever on the pain in my arms and hands. She put me on a
regime of steroids and Neurontin (gabapentin) a anti-seizure med. The pain
in my left arm was gone in hours, but my hands and shoulders have remained a
pain in the ass!

I'm sorry to hear about your pain. I've used Neurontin. It works well,
but you need to titrate. It takes awhile to kick in -- like several
days. I hate that phantom pain you get with a pinched nerve. It's very
disturbing because it's not "real." It sucks.

I adore Vicodin -- probably too much. It's a good buzz. It works in
about 15 minutes.

Good luck with your surgery, Opus.

Best of luck to you Frank. At present I'm too much of a sissy to get old;
but I'm hoping to toughen up a bit in the next few years.

I'm with Opie. No buzz. And, worse, no pain relief or so little I'd
do better with the ibuprofen I take now I've given up on the vicodin /
hyrodocone. Of course the fact that they make me barf up blood isn't
a good thing, either (not the ibuprofen, the codin cone things.)..

So glad you've got a pain med that works for you. And good luck to
you, too, on your surgery.

I have tried ibu and aspirin but they both crank up my tinnitus to damn
near intolerable levels...thanks to all for the good wishes...this too
shall pass and I intend to jerk a few lips come next spring.

....besides, I don't need to remember the winter of 06-07 do I?

Hearing is deteriorating so hearing tests are scheduled for next week, probably a hearing aid in my future.

Frank, if you were subjected to noise while in the military, the VA
may determine that your hearing loss is service-connected and if so,
will provide you with hearing aids and a lifetime supply of batteries.

I received two digital aids just a couple of months ago, because the
VA determined my recent hearing loss was probably caused by flying
noisy military airplanes half a century ago.

Good luck.
