Well, presidents have, for the most part, been territorial.

Wolfgang
who, although not certain of much, rests assured that this observation is
at least as valuable as most of the political pearls cast before this
audience.

Okay, but could a Puerto Rican or Samoan citizen become POTUS?

Op

Why not? As long as they're a natural born U.S. citizen.

Don't worry about Barack Obama's fighting ability. He's won,
and lost, elections for the Illinois legislature and Illinois
politics is anything but genteel.
Er, yeah...he's the regular Fightin' Illini of politics...and in his
last "game," the opposition sent the cheerleaders, but forgot to bring
the actual team to the stadium...

The general election of the 2004 Senate race wasn't the "game", it
was a foregone conclusion, the knock down drag out happened in the
Democratic primary

"Knock down drag out," huh? Yeah, it was a real down-to-the-wire
nail-biter...what, 182% of the registered Dems voted for him, compared
to the next-place guy, a Chicago legacycrook, who only got, what,
101%...

as anyone who had even a cursory understanding
of Illinois politics would well know.

IOW, you don't have the slightest idea...and if you think winning some
Chicago ballot-box-stuffing contest is any real prep for a US-wide
Presidential race, you really are, um, way out there in left field...

The question was, does Obama have enough fight in him to weather
the inevitable Swiftboating by the GOP dirty tricks committee.
The answer is, he had success in Illinois politics and Illinois
politics is not for the faint of heart. As for "real prep" for a
Presidential race, what in the hell would that be ? Trying it
once and getting trounced ? In that case McCain is a shoo-in. LOL !!

"Persons born in Puerto Rico acquire U.S. citizenship under 8 U.S.C. 1402,
which is part of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act. This is statutory
citizenship rather than citizenship arising from birth or naturalization in
a state of the union under the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution."

This would seem to exclude Puerto Ricans from the status of "natural born
U.S. citizen." Unless, of course, you mean to suggest that "natural born"
only excludes those delivered by caesarian section.

samoa.

But are they?

Persons born in Puerto Rico acquire U.S. citizenship under 8 U.S.C. 1402,
which is part of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act. ***This is
statutory citizenship rather than citizenship arising from birth or
naturalization in a state of the union under the 14th Amendment of the U.S.
Constitution.

Not that I disagree with you, but evidently at least one big name on

"Big name on the right?" Please.

I'd say someone who held the position of House Majority leader is a
big name.

Thus neatly explaining the CONSTANT Democratic invocation of
"WWJD?"...you know, "what would John (McCormack) do?" ...why, heck, that
was probably the REAL reason the Dems got control of Congress...

HTH,

....hell, I'd bet big that if you asked 1000 US citizens "who is/was Tom
DeLay," 90% of the answers would be split about equally among something
like "Whuden he that guy Paris Hilton was bangin' in that video?" and
"The guy on TV who sells that stuff that stops guys from shootin' their
load too fast...no, honey, that guy was the guy who owned the banana
company...naw, you're crazy - THAT guy sells them pills that get limp
dicks hard. That Delay fella sells the **** that stops ya from comin'
too fast...besides, it's a pineapple factory, not a banana company..."

And of course, Jim was Dudley Do's brother...
