I have a complete fly tying setup, including exotic furs from Africa and an abundance of hooks, dubbing, threads, etc etc etc. But I still prefer to buy a handful of ready made flies than to tie up a halfdozen of my own. Blasphemy, I know. I've been tempted to put my entire tying kit up for grabs on eBay or ROFFT. I think I'm more in love with the idea of tying than I am with the realities of it. Your fly is impressive and I know it would catch trout on my favorite stream--Upper Creek! However, unless I can learn how you tied you fly, that is whether I can tie one just like it, I may never catch a trout with your pattern, as I don't fish my swap flies--to date anyway. You did a wonderful job! Thanks for your efforts. Op --aka-- Mark H. Bowen |

Highly successful singers take voice lessons. PGA professional golfers have coaches. The list goes on and on. c,sell the vice and buy ready made flies . Purely a matter of personal choice. Answers to roff .(still worth browsing even now). If these fly swaps were competitive most of us would have no business entering.....most of us.....some of these guys are real pros. But they aren't competitive, and I haven't seen anything yet that anyone needed to apologize for. John'' who still believes scruffy catches fish'' Whiteley. They'll ALL catch fish. Guaranteed. Thanks to Joe and all the adept craftsmen. Ditto. Despite the lamentations of malcontents there is still very much that is good about ROFF. These swaps over the past several years have been, and continue to be, one of the highlights. Wolfgang |

Hans van der Stroom Even for a stiff like me who sells flies.... I still tie. Theres just something extra satisfying about catching fish on flies you tie yourself. I use the pro ones i get into the shop for reference when I try to learn new patterns or parts of patterns. |
