Fishking wrote: "Ken Fortenberry" wrote: but boy, did you ever introduce yourself all wrong to this bunch ! ;-) Not true Ken, that's just your opinion and not fact. stop spreading rumors. We love fly fisherman, we just hate the way they fish :;-) Well, no one has answered Sandy's question yet. If he'd introduced himself as anything *other* than a fly fisherman somebody would have answered his question by now. Sandy, tell them you're a hot 24 year old bass fishin' gal. That'll get an answer out of them. ;-) Well Ken, there's a good reason why I haven't answered Sandy's question. I don't have a decent answer. There are far too many variables in his question. What type of tackle is it going to be used on, spinning or baitcasting? If it's going to be used on spinning tackle, then 1/4 oz. is great, but perhaps it will be too light for casting gear. 1/2 oz. would be better for casting gear. How deep are these lures designed to run? I hate running deep diving lures on spinning tackle and most of the shallow baits I have are lighter in weight and more difficult for my clients to cast on casting tackle. See what I mean? We need more information before a responsible answer can be given. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

Thanks Steve: That's a pretty good answer though: there is no best weight. I really can make these as light or as heavy as I want, and to run shallow or deep. There are some limitations, so far anyway. Slow wide wobbling lures tend to run shallow. The deep divers have longer bills, but they tend to vibrate with a tighter shake than the shallow running guys. It would be great if I could figure out how to get a deep diving slow wide wobbler. But I haven't been able to do that so far. |

I'm pulling in to Boulder Junction Sunday night and I have three days of musky fishing with Bill Sherer starting Tuesday, but Monday is an open date for me. As it turns out my wife's class at Dillman's Resort was cancelled due to low enrollment so I'm on my own for the week. I was thinking maybe brookie fishing on the East Branch of the Presque Isle but really anything *other* than heaving a 9 wt all day sounds good to me. I'd hate to be that close and not have a chance to at least meet for a beer at the end of the day and I know you're headed off bear hunting at the end of the week. Yeah, I'm taking off Wednesday morning for Idaho, but it would be great to get together at least for that beer! E-mail me privately and I'll give you my cell phone number, we can discuss this more. Let's get breakfast! We can have spam and eggs. |
