The night hawk was weirder than the bat. But I think the rattlesnake takes the cake. Two years ago my brother and I were fishing at Lake Thunderbird, near Norman, Oklahoma. On a cast from the dam my brother snared a wayward seagull in midair. The angry bird couldn't fly in that condition. My brother had to real him in and untangle him from the line. What a mess. The rest of us on shore just watched in a bemused amazement. When it was all over the bird flew away, no doubt wondering what that was all about. -- James E. Morrow |

While I was struggling to set the MF free, and while it was biting me, a wave caught my rig and drove a big treble hook deep into my thumb. A guy I was fishing with at Christmas Island caught a huge albatross while trolling for trevally. The guides, who had to release it, and who had told him to bring his rig in when the albatrosses started going for it, were ****ed,. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

Beaver
Was cat fishing one night on the river with 30# line, I was using no light, just threw out tight lining, and kicked back watching the stars. My bait runner took off, reel clicking like all get out, I went to set the hook, but felt nothing, just started bringing the slack up real fast, Thought a limb had drifted into my line, instead it was a beaver that had swam into it, I ended up snagging his right foot with the hook, and the fight was on. He wasn't that big, maybe 10 lbs, I had planed on getting the hook out, but I quickly changed my mind and just cut the line short :-) -- Rodney Long SpecTastic Wiggle rig Formally the Mojo Wiggle rig http://spectastictackle.com/ |

Quite a fight to get him in so I could unhook him (yeah, I could have just cut the line, but ....) He was pretty docile once I had him under an arm; those big birds don't weigh hardly anything for their large size. MM Since I also fish sal****er, I have hooked several pelicans. Last one a week ago, shore fishing about 30 miles from La Paz, Baja, MX. young one. Took several tries to get himself hooded up with a Crocodile's trebles. I got his beak under his wing and he/she calmed down. Could remove the croc and she swam away giving me an evil eye. |

I've caught clams a bunch of times while fishing in Ontario. I guess
the hook lands in their mouth and they grab on. Not much of a fight though |
