What are the weirdest (whatever your definition of that is) things
that you,
or any friends, have caught so far while fishing ?

Morons, idiots, cretins, dumbasses, fools, imbeciles.....that sort of thing.

Wolfgang
who, personally, doesn't think there's anything particularly "weird" about
it.....but hesitates to impose his own quotidian standards on such an
erudite gathering as has been flushed out by this penetrating survey.

The night hawk was weirder than the bat.
But I think the rattlesnake takes the cake.

Two years ago my brother and I were fishing at Lake Thunderbird, near
Norman, Oklahoma. On a cast from the dam my brother snared a wayward
seagull in midair. The angry bird couldn't fly in that condition. My
brother had to real him in and untangle him from the line. What a mess.
The rest of us on shore just watched in a bemused amazement.

When it was all over the bird flew away, no doubt wondering what that was
all about.

I caught a frying pan and a rubber tire in Sheepshead bay Brooklyn NY when I
was a child
I thought that I had a giant fluke each time

I guess I'll have to delurk after an absence of 11 yrs from ROFF.
About 20 yrs ago I was flyfishing for steelhead in the lagoon at the
mouth of Pescadero Creek (CA). As I was hauling back to recast, a
grebe paddled by and I snagged him by the tail feathers. That sucker
was *strong*. When I had him just about close enough to release him,
the game warden came up behind and made a sarcastic comment
about my catch but declined to assist me in the release (no waders).

A grebe is pretty scary up close with red eyes and a long sharp beak
(and ****ed off).

BTW, the warden was the same underachiever who shouted from the
bluff above the lagoon for us waders to hold up our licenses so he
could look at them through his binoculars on an earlier occasion.

Back to lurk mode ;-)

It's a fertile environment, that's for sure.

I've caught clams a bunch of times while fishing in Ontario. I guess
the hook lands in their mouth and they grab on. Not much of a fight
though
