MDK77,

Albeit pointless here, I applaud your efforts. Actually, I think
you've made matters worse. You've just earned a flybox full of flies.
PM me as to where to send it.

Default Peace Treaty?

Dangleberry is the principal provocateur. He has
been for years. Most readers ignore his posts. The only
responses (for the most part) he does get come from his
incessant taunts. So I guess we've helped train him that way,
over the years. I think I met him once. Can't remember
where, but I do have a mind's eye picture of a pudgy, vertically
challenged nerd with the physical presence of an overfed
pet mouse.

When he sits behind a keyboard, however, where there is no
chance of meaningful consequence, a metamorphosis
takes place. Like a marvel comics hero, Dangleberry instantly
becomes a tough guy. Like the horny, stumbling, love-lorn spiderman,
Dangleberry changes his cameleon colors. Years of frustration--
probably dating all the way back to primary school--transform
into a sadistically comic warrior--a sawed off
Barney Fife becomes Russell Crowe in the Colosseum.

I realize I'm not contributing to the peace process
by saying this. But this soap opera has been going on for so long now
I do think it's a hopeless cause anyway.

Dangleberry: perhaps we'll meet again someday.
Could be some real fun then.

Teh subject line of your post should be "OT" Peace treaty, what a
meathead!

Sorry. I'm still learning message board etiquette. You're right, I
should have posted that with the "OT".

Don't apologize. Whoever told you off is a schmuk. (can't remember or
be bothered to find out who it was - there are dozens of them here).

This newsgroup contains an extraordinary number of deeply damaged,
rather unpleasant people, for some reason. Where I fish, most
fly-fisherpeople are unusually tolerant, and most places I've been in
the world fishers are wise, tolerant and helpful.

Not here, though.

As you've seen, for some reason, Roff (rec.outdoors.fishing.fly) seems
to have attracted an unusual skim of agressive middle-aged men, mostly
american, with chips on their shoulders, who have nothing better to do
than pick meaningless, vicious fights with each other.

I've never met any of them, and I've no desire to.

A few of them do know a few things about fishing, (I can never remember
which ones, to be honest, are republican, and which democrat (in spite
of the title of the group, american politics is the main subject of the
group)), so I've been using it for information for many years.

But I would strongly advise you to avoid this place and talk to some
real fishermen who will be glad to help you.

Lazarus

Thanks. I realize I was trying the "Don Quixote" here by suggesting
folks tone down a bit. You are 100% correct though, with the advice
to talk to local fishermen. I have done that and everyone has been
great & I have learned a lot from them. But I've learned a lot from
folks here on the board too -- if you can wade through the nasty posts
and pick out the good stuff.

As Lazarus pointed out, it is better to refrain from involving oneself
in what might charitably be referred to as the "internal workings" of
this group.

If you can pick up useful information now and again then by all means
do so. But donīt attempt to enter into conversation with any of these
people unless you know them. They will insult and provoke you for
their entertainment.

Even on fishing matters, it is a good idea to take a lot of things
written here with a good pinch of salt.

Anyway, thanks for your thanks, and your attempts at peacekeeping, but
donīt waste any time on it. There is no way to change these people,
that is also why they never learn much about fishing.

So what do you contribute to roff except your once or twice
a year troll to start an argument about what constitutes a
fly ?

We met at the high school gym in Livingston, Montana. You
were tying up some ridiculous looking contraption which no
self-respecting fly fisherman would ever cast with a fly rod
while dropping names just as fast as you could. Your mind's
eye must have been looking in the mirror because that's
precisely how I remember you. I've got about 2-3 inches on
ya there, big guy.

Dangleberry: perhaps we'll meet again someday.
Could be some real fun then.

Are you calling me out, Sweetcakes ? LOL !!

Agree absolutely. If you ever do meet him, say "hello" to him from me.

Dave.

Don't you realize that lots of the folks here aren't american, and
don't give a toss whether you're republican or democrat?

I thought would have had a lot more people skills self-control.. Guess
