Sea fishing licence needed?

Hello - does anyone here know whether you need a licence to fish in the sea
(from the shore) in France? I'm driving back from Spain next week and
thought I'd stop off along various beaches on the way back and give it a
crack.

Also - any good stretches in particular out there (ie anywhere along the
coast say, between Bordeaux and Calais)?

I wouldnt think it necessary, the sea that is between low tide and high tide
has always been classed as 'no mans land' this in mind, no charge or licence
to fish could be necessary or obligatory to either the land owner of the
beach nor the water authority owning the rights to 'offshore'. I would fish
and if anyone asked i would use the age old tried and tested reply 'sorry
mate, i come from uk and we dont need one there, where do i get one?' then
leave quietly hehe.
