Republican party, maybe there is some hope for moderating the divide
between the two parties and the animosity between their supporters.

Predictably. Obama was attacked by Clinton for those comments, as though
he were saying that they were all GOOD ideas.

I think what he was trying to get across, and which I think is true or
at least possible, is that like Reagan he would be a transformative
president, especially if in the general election he attracts
independents and cross-over Republicans.

Reagan did, through the force of his avuncular personality,
lead America down the rosy path of rack and ruin where the
rich got richer and the poor got poorer. Those ideas were bad
then and they're bad now, but yeah the GOP sure had a lot of
them.

When a Democratic presidential candidate can praise Reagan and the
Republican party it indicates that Democratic presidential candidates, like
all career politicians, are capable of saying whatever they think (rightly
or otherwise) will improve their chances of getting elected.

The animosity between the supporters of candidates from the two major
political parties in this country is simply proof of something or other that
smells bad.
