Wow, nice return, Mu! And, a great story about Penn's and about Jack, who is a hell of a guide. He also rescues fly vests that nitwits like me leave in the woods! It was great to read your tale, and glad you enjoyed your stay in Central PA!! Had you been 3 weeks or so later, you could have fished Penn's pretty successfully with 3-inch long streamers, and probably Spring as well. Elk would have been teeming with spawners, illustrating the variety of angling one sees up that way over a season. Care to join us for a Clave, Memorial Day week?? * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *Tom I won't be heading east Memorial Day but I'll raise a glass for ya from my porch. Oh yeah and Jack rescued a reel for my friend too. Mu |

I was reminded of a brief moment last year. * I was deep into the Ranch and Never fished the Ranch. Just the public section. Since moving to the SF Bay area have not been back to eastern Sierras. Last time on Hot Creek I had an interesting encounter. I was just swinging by there for about half hour on the way home. Not in the mood to stalk and crouch I reached into the flybox for a big ugly. Turk's tarantula. Perfect. Let's look for a dumb fish. I began walking and smacking that fly as hard as I could. I came upon an underwater ledge where a group of suckers were doing their thing - sucking. There were so many of them it was disgusting. As I made my next cast a 20+ brown emerges from within that writhing mass of suckers and pounds my fly. I stood there paralyzed as the big brown spit the fly and disappeared back below the sucker orgy. Mu |

Oh, I was talking about the RXR Ranch section of the Henry's Fork, my "adopted home water," not Hot Creek Ranch .... just brought up the early morning stalking on Hot because I knew you were in California |

Thanks mu--I plan to attend Penn's clave for fourth visit this year and have never had much luck with small small yellow flys perhaps this year I will try large hopper or hopper. I think this is the year Tom Littleton is going to put on demonstration class in use of streamers !! So I better get outside and practice casting--it is 62 degrees in coastal carolina ! This year's May seminar will be on fishing pairs of wee little wet flies. Once you tie them on, they almost fish themselves....no further eyesight needed. Tom |
