Fishy Picture

We all like to take pics of our catch and we all face the challenge of
doing so in ways that physically stress the fish the least. Another
thing I like to avoid is similar to avoiding the classic tourist
tendency to take "Jane in front of" type pictures where the supposed
subject is replaced in actuality by a person ... i.e. "Sam with a
fish"

I have my 'puter set up to rotate through some of my photos as a
screensaver and this

just went by. I make no claims to art or originality, but it
caught my eye and I decided to share it as a variation of fish picture
I've not seen too often.

I never considered that a trout would live in a landing net and use his own
flyrod to catch a meal. I suppose there are stranger things in life, though?

That fly rod has grown an interesting tumor of cork on
top of the reel seat. I hope you're not fishing downstream
of a nuke plant. ;-)

To hell with screen savers, that's a sanity saver. Thanks, with the
snow overnight and the temps bottoming out again, I needed a reason to
keep on working for fishing money.

The cork tumor is a bit smaller now. After I put those three rings
on any given rod and work it down to a basic shape, I carry a small
piece of sandpaper with me and make gradual changes until the grip
fits my hand. To each his own, but I really like gripping the rod
farther to the rear, heal of hand over reel ... at least sometimes
( and of course, the standard grip is still available for the other
times ;-)

....speaking of which:

On my smaller rods -- 6 to 7 ft. -- that I use on the little streams
in a more sneak-around manner, I tend to grip them with index finger
on top and tend to cast with a "pointing" motion.
Eventually, I got to shaping the grip to accommodate that, with a
depression near the top front of the grip. It made for a more
comfortable hold.

Anyone else try anything similar ?
