The closed season doesn't have anything to do with hatchery
trucks or hordes or the fact that you bought a trout stamp.

Brook trout aren't spawning in April.

Water flows downhill in April.

Look, I take this seriously, and the reason I didn't have rules/
reasons at my fingertips is that my friends and I figured out the
rules a long time ago, became comfortable that we were doing the right
thing, and haven't thought about it since. I don't think I'm
poaching.

Now, the creeks I might fish before official opening day aren't on
this list. However, they're not any of the stocked stream lists,
either.

That's your rationalization ? Some creeks are open to C&R fly fishing
year round so it's OK to C&R fly fish any creek I want year round ?

I'd like to hear you try to run that one by the game warden. LOL !

Rationalize all you want but fishing for trout when the trout
season is closed is poaching. Period.

PA is different, I think. My reading of the rules says that the only
prohibition is on 'approved trout waters', which have to be posted as such.
Thus, any water not so marked is open for fishing, except for endangered
species, year-round. What Mr. R did is perfectly legal.

this type of thing is exactly what I expected to hear when I first
posed the question. I vaguely ( very vague) remembered PA having
some odd regulations and thought maybe only some waters had a season,
per se. My first fly rod was given to me by a PA friend, when I was
living in Maryland, and I mucked around a bit fly fishing with him
years before I got serious about the sport.

Thanks for clearing that up Tom. I'd hate to think Kyle was
a poacher.

That's odd. It seemed like you were creaming your pants at the thought
he was a poacher.

It shouldn't surprise anyone on roff to know that I am not fond
of self-admitted poachers. Nor should anyone be surprised that
you are a ****in' putz. And you truly are a chronic ****in' putz.
