Hook types

Since this newsgroup seems dead (unless my server is missing a LOT of
messages) I realize it's mostly a bass list as well. BUT I'm betting
that most folks fish for more than just bass.

How about a discussion on hook types and sizes used for various fish.
For instance when would you prefer a circle type hook for fishing and
when you would like an octopus or aberdeen or whatever.
Bait holder?

Sizes you prefer and what do you use them for. Yes I already know that
using a size 20 for lunker bass isn't going to work well, Or using a 5.0
for brook trout isn't a good idea...

Do you pre-snell or just tie on as needed.

Anyone use a specific rig most of the time, like a Texas rigged worm or
a Carolina or some other "lucky" tie.

For myself I have bare hooks in the box for just about anything, plus
snell holders with hooks from #6 up though #3.0 with maybe 5 of each
size all ready to go, but they are just snelled to the line no upper
loop in case I want to drop a weight or two or maybe a few beads or a
spinner.

The, "Let's pick a broad topic. Discuss." Approach never seemed to work in
this group even when it was more active. These guys either have strong
opinions about items or they are problem solvers, but, "what kinda hook do
you use for everything?" is right up there with, "What do you think about
chocolate covered manhole covers?"

I've got dozens of different hooks I use for different things. Some are
based on size, others on application and there might even be a few that for
different sizes I might have different type applications.

And, no you haven't been missing anything. danl probably still has me
blocked because he took offense to me mentioning somebody on this group who
makes or made baits took forever to fill an order, and most of us have
various incarnations of scumvilepunitcanoeanglerbugonthewindshield blocked.
Other than that there just hasn't been any traffic.

Steve, most of the Bass fishing I do is with soft plastics. I favor a
Gamakatsu(sp) off set worm hook in red. Various sizes from 1 to 5.0.
I can't remember the designation at the moment, but I try to find the
thinnest "wire" types. I have been meaning to try more circle hooks,
but always fall into the trap of using my "tried and true" hooks when
I hit the water.
For crappie I use very small Mister Twister type spinners with tiny
jigs/grubs.

How do you store your small spinners? I have probably 50 small (under
1/8 oz)inlines and am looking for something better for storage. Most of
the small boxes and trays I have looked at seem to have compartments
that will hold 3-4 in each spot. I'd rather have something that holds
one each, I was thinking maybe a fly box but most of those look shallow.

I like the circles I have tried. They seem to do what is claimed with
regard to hooking at the jaw instead of in the gut. Does make it better
for C&R fishing.

I don't use inline spinners. The Spinners I am referring to look like
downsized Bass spinners. Can't remember what they call em.
