I come now on bended knee. Yep, I'm begging....for flies.
Here's the story. As you know or could have known by now I am renovating the 'shack out back' and my main decor is to be fly fishing, with some miscellaneous oddball fishing items thrown in. ...and I'd like some flies from ROFF. I have a Green Drake by Tom L. and some god awfully small midges from Dave PA and one of his beetles...a little worse for the wear - it has caught a few fish. A Pass Lake from Wofgang and one of Jonas' green drakes. ....and with you all's permission I intend to display them. But I need a few more....a bunch more. --snipped-- story about the really neat table saw I bought...'bought 90 pounds of iron on which the motor went bad and other humorous items relating to why I didn't build these shelves my self. - Over in binaries I posted a pic of two shelves I found at a flea market. I hope to use those to display the flies. The one on the left has a total of 49 compartments with an overall length of 20 inches by 18 inches high. 30 compartments are suitable for single flies. (2"x2") 10 are 2"x4" 7 are 4"x2" and 2 are 4"x4" The box on the right has a total of 22 compartments and is 16 inches wide by 12 inches high. 8 compartments are 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 12 are 2 1/2 by 1 1/2 2 are 5 1/2 by 3 1/2 Could you guys help me out? I wish to display the fly and the name (properly spelled) of the tier... Should ROFF be at the bottom? or Rec.Outdoors.Fishing.Fly ? and/or the year? But Wait! That's Not All! I'd be glad to hand the other one as a special gift at the Penn Clave...not the trade thing but like the Full Reid's and Blue Rock thing. 'course it probably wouldn't take to kindly to being transported 'every' year.... ....and some might say, " Oh sure, John's keeping the biggest and prettiest display for himself..." To that I say, "Yeah." But I'll tell you what I'm gonna do for no money down, ninety days same as cash and no interest until February 2005...I'll give it to you when I die. No strings attached, well maybe one... You must enter the tontine. Not that any value would be added by my additions but I do have one or two interesting items. I have one small collection of one dead guy's fishing stuff except the family I obtained it from has moved and I fear I shall never have the chance to obtain the former owner's picture and one page bio. The items will make a neat wall display, huh? I deem the items to be number one atypical of a modestly successful W.W.II vet. A Southbend bamboo fly rod here, maybe a Heddon bamboo bait casting there. A 65 year or so old ,muskie/pike ice-fishing rod made right here in Dayton, Ohio. A rather eclectic collection. I saw the old guys house and contents before the estate sale, and the items are exactly what I would of expected of an accountant who had a ponderous, old, block and stone house. Never really leaving his desk, who lived alone the last few decades....no children. He left the whole kit and caboodle to his nephew who, unfortunately, had a bad back and sold it all. It would have taken all I had to bring the old estate up to snuff, but would have been worth it many times over. So I made the nephew an offer and bought all the fishing stuff. Although I would put all of 'my' junk in the ROFF tontine pile it would be up to who (or is it whom - where is that old textbook?) ever inherited it to sort it all out and pick and item or two representative of me. I think a well worn, non descript vest would be the best. An item or two of necessity, none of quality, inhabiting the pockets along with pipe cleaners, screens, rolling machines, a fractured molar and a blood covered slug. What an explanation that would require! Well, I figure I could get Wayno to draw up the paperwork for this kind of a thing...after all, it 'is' for the children, and maybe get some free legal services in the process! I mean don't you think it would be entirely appropriate for a Cackalackian (did I spell that right?) to authorize the paperwork donating the body of a damned Yankee to science? What do you think? Should I beg for flies? After all, my tontine tradition might be a shelf, a box of flies and namecards......assembly required.... john |

At first I thought you were joking, then I remembered you were the one that had your fingertip fly taken off of Ebay for breaking the rules regarding body parts! Now, I tell you what, I'll be happy to tie a fly or two to contribute to your tontine (first I've seen that word), but, I do have some expectations of outliving most of you old farts, especially with this crazy tontine on the line! Hell, I may have to sell my motorcycle to lower my risk! |

So make it the short form.
My friend Steve Stapleton picks something, Bob Colley picks something and the rest of my fishing items (decorations, knick knacks included) go to ROFF (Rec.outdoors.fishing.fly) when I die. ...momentarily lucid john s. baker "Wayne Harrison" wrote in message r.com...
