aka the 2003 midge swap.

I guess we can forget about those ? At least I havent heard or seen
anything to or from Matt in quite
a while.

Yes, and it looks like I wasted my time for the latest FS2004 swap
also. I tied my butt off to get them off early before I had to leave
on business (lost package)!

I quit these things for good!

Must be bad karma. I've never had a problem.

TL,
Tim
who WOULD tie another 37 of something (probably something more simple) -
especially with this much time left.

Funny you bring up karma. Getting ripped off by Matt got me to thinking
about karma. I'm pretty trusting ie. I don't lock my house or my car
(some people would say this is stupid), but I don't get ripped off.

Matt's a dickhead. He ripped off a bunch of people. It's even worse when
it is by someone you "know".

It really is, because if you'll remember, I had signed up for the swap, but
backed out because of the tyer limit when you stated you would be joining. Since
you are by far the better tyer, I thought the swap would be better served by
your presence than mine. Man, my karma *IS* in extereme-good mode, eh?

It really is the first roff-organized swap I can remember that fell apart. It's
too bad it happened, but the other swaps shouldn't be judged by that one
failure. If Matt had a good reason for the failure, he certainly never made it
known. My feeling is that he'll have to live with whatever karma he generated
and the rest of the participants can still sleep well at night. ;-)

While everyone's fears about getting "ripped off" may or may not be well
founded; it is not my impression of Matt that he would do so intentionally
or have the need to acquire a supply of midges in that manner. Frankly,
it's indeed possible that life changes may be preventing him from following
through. As just as frankly (and morbidly), after seeing him drive his
Honda CBR600 crotch rocket, it's also quite possible that he's in the
hospital or dead. Whattaya say you give it some time & hope for the best?

Well Joe, after not hearing ANYTHING for a long period of time, we
finally heard from Matt around XMas. Before that other participants were
echoing your sentiments, trying to give him the benefit of the doubt
since we hadn't heard from him in a long time and he was ignoring
emails. His email around Christmas explained that he had "misplaced" the
flies on a fishing trip and was embarrassed to tell us about it but he
had found them and was finally getting them out. So, at least up to that
point, he WAS a dickhead and his choice to ignore emails and ignore us
wasn't due to life changes or getting injured or ......

Since that time no one in the swap has heard a word. What are we
supposed to think?

If you know the guy maybe you could get us some information.

Willi

Well okay then. Not having been a participant, I hadn't followed the
progress or updates. I *have* seen him drive though, hence my concern. :-)

I'm still laughing about the juxtaposition of the last two sentences...

It's a shame, too...it seems pretty silly for someone to tarnish his
reputation over a few bugs. I was upset when the midges first went missing,
but when I took the time to put things into perspective, I realized that
this group has given me many more positive things than negative. I've "met"
flyfishers from all over the world and know that it wouldn't be too
difficult to drum up a fishing partner on at least a couple of continents.
I've had the pleasures of fishing with a fellow ROFFian on a couple of
occasions and of participating in a successful swap (I'm still catching fish
with those flies). I've seen incredible photos from all over the globe and
read stories of fishing in exotic locales. Nobody has been too hard on me
here...at worst I've been ignored, but I've also made a few friends. Yeah,
it would have been nice to see everybody's midges, but I look at the $7 and
2 hours that I invested as dues paid. I think I got a pretty good deal.

Cheers,
Bill
