Also that the cameras were carefully manipulated to avoid showing the San Diego shoreline/skyline behind them. The real 'shame' in all of this is that it is just a drop in the bucket of the manipulation and misinformation that characterizes this presidency. Sure, politics is full of manipulation, but to actually manipulate the country into a war, and then pass the blame of his own misinformation onto another (whatever happened to 'the buck stops here'??)... And this nonsense about the country being safer: as Ben Franklin said: Anyone who gives up a little freedom for a little security deserves neither. I'm not at all sure that we are safer. But I am very certain that we have lost a boatload of freedoms, and a massive amount of world respect. Anyone who actually supports the reelection of Bush, with his blatant economic partisianship, lack of concern for the environment, international cooperation or public welfare, and with his demonstrated ability to erode American's freedoms ought to wear a "kick me" button. The man ought to be impeached. --riverman |

Dave, this is beneath you. Which I say as one who also has said some stupid **** in the heat of an arguement. Dave, when the DNC points to Max Cleland and says he gave his limbs for us, he left his limbs on the battlefield of Vietnam, it is distorting the truth. Max picked up a grenade and it exploded, and he was not in combat. He does not have the PH. I am sorry that this accident happened, but he didn't "leave his limbs on the battlefield". ![]() "Ken Fortenberry" wrote... snip No, wait, don't tell us, just wave your limbs at us I hate to go off topic g, but I have a friend who is a triple amputee (both arms and one leg.) He was involved in a tragic car accident as a teenager, but feels very fortunate to be alive and still with it. One of the things we do when we get together (and following a drink or two) is make up "What do you call a person with no arms and no legs. . ." jokes. Sick, I know, but some are fairly clever. You've all heard "What do you call a guy with no arms and no legs in a swimming pool?" A: Bob Here are some more (or less) originals: What do you call a person with no arms and no legs. . . .. . . rolling on the beach? A: Sandy .. . . hanging on the wall? A: Art .. . . standing in a corn field? A: Colonel .. . . standing in the middle of a stage? A: Mike .. . . sitting on the grill? A: Chuck .. . . in your pocket? A: Penny .. . . coming over a hill in the east? A: Dawn .. . . in your mailbox? A: Bill I could go on, but shouldn't. I have to think up another before my next visit with him. ![]() -- TL, Tim ------------------------ http://css.sbcma.com/timj |

Agreed, but the re-bar wasn't a combat wound. If he told the docs it WAS a
combat wound, regardless how he received it, he would have been awarded the PH. (He has one anyway.) I have friends that are still carrying small chunks and don't have the PH. Dave I appreciate his honesty and honor. My records show multiple frag wounds from a friendly fire episode. They don't show the hostile fire injuries. Both types were minor compared to lots I saw. One of the Vets service officers who helped me get my hearing loss compensation told me of men from WWII who lost limbs in combat situations but will never get their PH's because no one in authority wrote them up. -- Stev Lenon 91B20 '68-'69 Drowning flies to Dark Star http://web.tampabay.rr.com/stevglo/i...age92kword.htm |

The Pirate notes:
At any rate, it almost doesn't matter to me anymore. Getting too old I guess. yeah, who cares if your grandkids are paying out the wazoo to support a tax cut for Ken Lay during a National Security Crisis? Therein lies the big crime. Everyone blathers about how 9/11 changed everything....sure didn't change Shrub's mind on rewarding his rich pals, did it? Such patriotism! BTW, before anyone making less than $100,000 per annum tells me about the wondrous tax cuts the middle class received, please do the math and subtract figures for state, local tax increases, as well as increased user fees and taxes on luxuries. Also, please subtract adequate amount for future debt service, and then tell me how much this tax cut helps us all. Tom |
