If you're the son of a Congressman, you get paid, you get free dental work, and you get an honorable discharge. Actually RW, it is a bit different than that. You must be getting your info from the same ****ed up sources that wouldn't know their head from their ass as Pavlov is.... The fact of the matter is that a reservist may get a "page 11" entry (not sure what other branches call it) which is basically a slap on the wrist *IF* the CO even decides to go that route. I saw many people get a verbal reprimand only and not even get a page 11 when they decided they just weren't going to be there, didn't call and never showed up. All that you had to do in order to get a "sat" (satisfactory) year was make up the drills. If you didn't get a sat year, you merely had to serve another year to make up for the bad one in order to get a honorable discharge. When I was in, I was ****ed that people who came to our unit with several years of obligation left on their contract could just decide to up and leave. I am talking either straight reservists with seven years left of their contract that just joined the unit or prior active duty people that just came to the reserves as part of their contract and who were obligated to a couple years in the reserves. You couldn't even give them a dishonorable discharge! They would get a "General Other Than Honorable" and that was that. I disagree with that practice but understand why it is the way it is. Also, reservists don't get "free dental" unless they are on active duty. Even while on active duty it was basically emergency services only for reservists; no teeth cleaning, no cosmetic ****, etc; just what was deemed "emergency services." Even if you needed a dentist, unless you were on active duty (two week mandatory time per year or actually activated) there wasn't even access to dental most of the time. I can think of one instance where a guy got dental during a drill weekend and that was when he got ****ed up during a drill weekend. They took him to El Toro from Pasadena for treatment because it happened during a drill weekend and was an accident during the course of training while on "duty" in the reserves. FWIW, during the four and half years I was in the reserves, I don't even recall getting a dental checkup. I know I had to use my dental insurance from my employer to get my wisdom teeth pulled because there was absolutely no chance of getting it taken care of even during one of my two week active duty obligations. Believe me, I looked into it because I had a high deductible..... -- Warren (use troutbum_mt (at) yahoo to reply via email) For Conclave Info: http://www.geocities.com/troutbum_mt...nConclave.html |

You're wrong about Kerry's war record, the men who served with him know the truth of it. You're the last person on earth I would have expected to spit on a Vietnam Vet, but your partisan politics seems to trump even your military allegiance. So Kerry, like everybody else in the military, is a jingo? -- Warren (use troutbum_mt (at) yahoo to reply via email) For Conclave Info: http://www.geocities.com/troutbum_mt...nConclave.html |

I have been touting this point for years and it is amazing how few working people get it. Tom well, obviously, as shown by the brilliance of posts by working people like lat757 or whateverthe****, working people are far more concerned with directing their energies to far more important things like a couple thousand gay people getting "married", or whatever the **** they want to do. yfitons wayno (do you begin to understand why i refuse to engage in threads dealing with politics and religion?) You read a hatchet job by the uberbitch Ann Coulter and swallowed it hook, line and sinker. Four days after heroic action in the battle of Khe Sanh, for which he was awarded the Silver Star, Cleland was nearly killed in an accident. He wasn't "fiddling" with a hand grenade. He picked it up after he thought it fell off his web belt when he jumped out of a helicopter. You are a disgrace. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

No doubt he could have and should have received the PH, but was never put in for it. I suppose it partly depends on the inclination of the CO. Joe F. Right on both suppositions. After Desert Storm I could look at another EA-6B aviator and tell you what boat he served on simply by the awards he wore. We all flew the same missions to the same targets and got shot at by the same SAMS and guns. Different CO's and chains of commands wrote the missions up different and recommended different awards. We hosted an USAF F-15 C driver (the air to air model not the E model that does attack) on the boat and everyone in his squadron who flew during the first two days of the war was awarded a Silver Star. Awards are one of those things you have to look back on with pride and remember what they mean to you on your own since they are not awarded with any consistancy even in the same service.
