Default TR - 14 Year old's First Fly Fishing

Neighbor's grandson had been teasing a 15 inch male smallie for three days
and finally caught him with a jig and wiggle tail on a spinning rod.

"Can you imagine catching one half again as large on topwater with a fly
rod?" sez I. When I saw the light in his eye and grin on his face, I just
grabbed a rod, reel and box of popping bugs and we headed for the river.
After a couple of hours, a couple of strikes (mind that loose line, now) and
lots of fun, maybe somebody got hooked on fly fishing. Even his grandpa
joined us and made a few casts - while I held grandpa's beer.

"Poor kid," sez I while all were walking back. "If you had a decent
grandpa, he'd buy you a fly rod and reel." Guess who blew half a can of
beer out his nose g. Oh well, maybe someday.

FWIW later back at the house told the wife I was proud of myself for the
question I DID NOT ask. "What's that?" she says. "The question", I
wondered, "is what would hurt worse while fly casting. A hook caught in a
pierced ear or a hook caught in a pierced eyebrow?" "You'll never know,"
she sez. "Yep," sez I, but that 14 year old has the possibility of finding
out - first hand!" G

Good luck!
John
