Default Upper Wisconsin Smallmouth Flotilla

A few weeks ago, just after Joel and I fished for smallmouth in the ultra
secret spot, I suggested to George that we should do a float trip on the
upper Wisconsin river in pursuit of the same.......smallmouth, that is. As
he was receptive to the idea and I don't know any better, I decided to see
whether or not it would float....so to speak. I just talked to George about
half an hour ago. He still likes the idea. He says either the weekend of
the 14th or that of the 21th of August would work well for him. I called
Jay. He's trying to put together a trout expedition for the UP, but hasn't
decided on a firm date yet. He's in. I called Joel. He's about to leave
for a week of walleye fishing in Canada.....with Margaret (so we know that
he'll behave himself)....but will be back in plenty of time. He's in.
Becky plans to join us (she just got herself a brand new kayak and a brand
new car......how could she NOT go?) She's in......so I guess I'LL be on my
best behavior too.

John.....something of a guest of honor since he introduced me to this latest
addiction (goddamn the pusher man!), if he decides to join us.....has not
yet been contacted. I left a voice mail for him just now. As no one else
has expressed a strong preference for either weekend, his will be the
deciding vote, should he cast one.

Becky, Jay, and I all have our own kayaks, George has a canoe, John has
kayaks, and I have another canoe that is available if needed

Anyone else who would like to join us is welcome. Details will be provided
as they become available and/or are requested.

Seems to me that you've given other people **** in the past for using
the "secret" ploy.

Seems to me the name and location of this "secret" spot is very well
known......not least because it has been published in this forum
several times.

Actually I think I had a hand in starting it as a joke i.e. The Secret
Spot (t). Its no big secret actually. The Secret Spot is below the
Grandfather Falls dam on the Wisconsin River 10 miles north of
Merrill. Fish around the boulders for bass, the bottom of the bigger
pools for walleyes (Although you'll be lucky to catch a keeper
walleye as most get hauled out when they approach legal size and with
one warden to cover the entire county your chances of getting caught
with an illegal fish are small.) For what its worth I've been doing
better fishing the much more accessible water below the Alexander Dam
just outside of town. Like Grandfather Falls it is hit heavily by 'eye
fishermen with the bass being seen as an inedible bycatch. Which is
fine by me.
