#1 - Chequomegon Bay (Wisconsin) The smallmouth fishing is fantastic. They've been managing this
water for trophy smallies and you're allowed 1 over 22 inches.

#2 - Turtle Flambeau Flowage (Wisconsin) More fantastic smallmouth fishing. A stump/rock filled,
boat eating monster though.

#3 - Lake Okeechobee (Florida) It's the Big O! What more can be said about it?

#4 - Stick Marsh (Florida) Managed for trophy largemouth, it's catch and release only. I've seen
some real monsters caught there.

#5 - Lake of the Woods (Minnesota/Ontario border) With good populations of smallmouth, and scenery
that is world class, who wouldn't want to fish there?

#6 - Lake Erie (Ohio/Michigan) Tremendous populations of lunker smallmouth

#7 - Dale Hollow Res (Kentucky/Tennessee) Home of two world record smallmouth bass, how can DH be
overlooked?

You will notice that I didn't add Boom Lake to the list. It seems that some people have problems
with this lake.

These are the only ones that I've had first hand experience with. I'm certain that others will have
more to add to the list.

I think every lake has it's own appeal, I like some lakes for their
combination of scentic attraction combined with decent
fishing...Kentucky, and Barkley Lakes. Dale Hollow for both great
fishing and scenery. But for outright bass fishing, I have to head west
to California grin! Otay, El Capitan, Cuyamaca, Hodges, San Vivcente,
Southerland, Dixon, Castaic, and even little Poway Lake would all have
to rate right up there in numbers and size of bass available. There are
certainly hundreds of other waters that I am sure rate a top
billing...but I just listed the ones I've wet a line in.

You didn't think highly of Center Hill??? There's a world record from there
too. It's a Walleye... but still a world record.

I liked Center Hill well enough and would fish it again. I just listed bodies of water that I
thought were exceptional, for size, numbers and scenery.

I would bet that none of us here could give you TWENTY bass waters as "best
in USA". I could give you the 20 best that I've fished, but then I'd be
leaving out the CA Delta and Clear Lake CA, both of which should probably
be on a list of the 20 best bass lakes. But how do I know for sure, since
I've never fished either of them? I'm not a grass is always greener kind of
guy, so I can only count the ones I've fished.

Based on the lakes I've fished enough to call 'em great or not...

1) Champlain
2) Stick Marsh
3) Lake Erie (western basin)
4) Lake Ontario (east)
5) Lake Erie (Eastern Basin)
6) Toledo Bend
7) Eufaula (AL)
8) Falcon (TX)
9) St Lawrence River
10) Lake of the Woods
11) Santee
12) Lake Toho
13) Candlewood
14 through 20 ) 6 of about 50 under-1000-acre lakes around the northeast
that I fish frequently.

Kentucky Lake should probably be on that list somewhere, but most of the
time that I spent on it was during it's "off period" in the early 80s. It
was decent then, but nothing like it is now though, from what I hear.

I agree with Steve's picks and would add Lake Minnetonka just outside
Minneapolis. I think the BASS tourney there still holds the record for most
limits. Joe Z.

And these are also waters that I've personally fished. There are many that I've heard/read about,
but I'm not one to say too much (most of the time anyway unless I can speak from personal
experience.

1. Lake St. Clair - world class smallmouth, muskie, perch, and crappie
fishing

2. Lake Erie - world class smallmouth, and walleye (near mouth of the
Detroit River)

3. Saginaw Bay (Lake Huron) - World Class Smallmouth & Walleye

4. Traverse Bay (Lake Michigan) - World Class Smallmouth

5. Lake Michigan - World Class Salmon, trout & bowfish

6. Kent Lake - Great One, Two Punch - World class smallmouth & Largemouth
fishing.

I have fished a number of premier lakes, but not enough to give a definitive
ranking.
