Default Has anyone had problems with Stren Superline

I tried the new Stren recently and was at first very impressed with the way
it felt, cast, and spooled. However, I quickly found that it breaks off
easier than the PowerPro that I'm accustomed to. Has anyone else had a
similar experience?

A good friend of mine had a similiar experience..lost two fish that could've
won him a new boat. He found to break WAY too easily.

Really weird.. I have been using the stren super braid for a while now with
no complaints...until the last spool. I have been breaking off getting
snagged on shoreline bush's that should have straightened out my hook. I
also had two fish that i lifted into the boat and had the line snap 2 feet
up the line each time. I checked the rod for nicks on the guides and found
none. Even switched rods checked the reel for dirt etc. Nothing, I don't
fish a lot of rocks and stuff and mostly have used the set up for topwaters.
I can only think that maybe I got a bad spool. I'll spool it up again . I
had the same thing happen with spiderwire one time also.

I had 50lb snap just casting muskie plugs. Happened twice about 10 minutes
apart on the same morning. Line snapped about 1 inch above the knot both
times. Switched to my rod with power pro 30lb. No problem with the same
lure. I was very disappointed in it.

Sounds like there may be some quality control problems recently.

I agree.... I had no problems with it when it first hit the market.

In my expierience, Stren has almost always been bad, many breakoffs and
letdowns. About the same with "Breaklene errrr Trilene" I mean. About
the best mono line that I've used they took off the market, and I rarely
EVER had breakoffs unless I was fishing some harsh conditions, that was
Tri-Max... They replaced it with "Tournement Strength" and now that's gone.
It was a decent line, not wonderful but good.

Recently, I've been using the "P-Line" Clear and this line seems really
nice. Low memory, very castable with a small diameter and been using it
the last 2 seasons and have not had a breakoff yet with it. I'm actually
pretty impressed with it.

This is strictly speaking with spinning rig setups and with mono line, so I
don't know if this does anyone any good if your more into the baitcasting
gig with braided lines. But for mono, P-Line has my money for now....

Happy fishing,

Doug
