Speaking of the Curado 201

Can anybody explain the logic of right-handed people using baitcasting reels
with right hand retrieves? I probably used a casting reel 2 or 3 times
until I was in my early 20s. That's when I started getting into bass
fishing and bought my first caster, a Shimano BMG 251X SG. A great reel,
that I still own 18 years later (but can't find parts for). Anyway, having
used spinning reels all my life with a left hand retrieve, I purchased a
left-hand retrieve casting reel and have ever since (I now own not nearly
enough, but more than my wife knows about).

Why do I feel like I am in the minority among right-handed people...let me
restate that, Why am I in the minority among right-handed people? Why do
most people prefer to change hands after casting with a casting reel, when
they would never do that with a spinning reel? Additionally, why do most
right-handed people who use right hand retrieves on the casting reels, use
left hand retrieves on their spinning reels? Why not stick to one cranking
hand? It makes no sense to me.

Stop asking those questions immediately! That line of thought could make
it more difficult for us lefties to fish comfortably!!

I dont know if I'm getting carpal tunnel syndrom, or maybe I'm just
getting old. but I sometimes get pain in one wrist/hand or the other,
and it's nice to be able to switch sides. If it wasn't for that, I'd
probably want all left hand retrieves. (I'm a righty)

I hold a casting reel at the reel, not by the handle, when retreiving. When I
cast I hold the handle. I have to change the position no matter which hand I
cast and reel with on a casting reel, and it is natural, after 30 years, for
the reel to end up in my left hand after the cast. No logic, just how I
learned.

On a spinning outfit I do not have to move the hand I cast with to retreive.

I reel with my left hand no matter what reel i'm using.

Me too, always the left hand cause I'm right handed. I wish Shimano would
make the Magnesium Curado in a lefty version so I could have something to
drool over all winter.

I go one step further and reverse all of my spinning reels to have the
handle on the right. It just seems more natural to me to switch hands
after casting, and crank with the right hand. Must be the fact that I
learned to fish with an old Zebco spincast reel (handle on the right).
