Took your suggestion and went to Silver Creek/ Big Wood for a couple
weeks. I've never been there this late in the year and it was WONDERFUL. The fishing was good enough, the enjoying nature great, and I had the place to myself a couple days. Thanks from Battle Mountain Nevada ...voted arm pit of America by the Washington Post and apperently it's a high point of civic pride here !!!! The McDonalds does have WiFi and coffee, so it ain't all bad g |

The water is high, but the bugs are big and the fish are eager. It's largely void of any culture or refinement, but one of these days I'd like to stop in Elko for the Cowboy Poetry Gathering. :-) Seriously, I've heard it's good. -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

![]() "rw" wrote I do that Idaho/California drive a couple of times a year. It's largely void of any culture or refinement, but For many years I ran retrievers on the "Idaho circuits" each year, often making the drive ( round trip) two or three times each season. .... a lot more times than the scenery and Nevada 'culture' can justify G I had an employee who went on to get a degree in fisheries biology ( I gave him his first fly rod ). He then got a job, for a year or so, in the Elko/Wells area surveying streams and ponds for environmental impact work for mining companies. He, and a couple other 'contacts' have told me of places with big fish and plenty of them 30 or 40 dirt road miles off the highways, especially near Wells. Someday, I plan to stop and check some of them out, but I'm usually too eager to see the "Welcome to Idaho" sign going one direction and just get home going the other. |
