Hey everyone...
All this talk lately about dropshotting, palomar knots, 'fancy' hooks, and everything else has had me thinking and I have a few quick questions for Warren, Rich Z., or anyone else that likes to dropshot. What does 'your' typical dropshot rig consist of? What line size, color, and brand do you usually use? What's your most productive dropshot bait? What size and brand hooks do you prefer? Do you use a fluoro leader or just attach the hook to the mainline? If so, what size and do you use a small swivel to attach the fluoro to the main line? I thought I read once that dropshotting can add a little line twist and using a swivel can help alleviate some of it. And finally, what rod or rods do you prefer? If you think of anything that might help someone who hasn't had much experience dropshotting, by all means feel free to add it. OK, maybe that's a few more than a few questions. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. -Jim Jr. www.teamhornerfishing.com |

Thanks in advance. -Jim Jr. www.teamhornerfishing.com For light drop shotting I use 8 lb Sunline Shooter fluorocarbon filled on the reel, 1/0 or 2/0 light wire EWG hook (typically Gamakatsu) attached with a Palomar knot, and I use Bakudan drop shot weights from Lunker City crimped on the tag end. The size of the weights I use depends on wind and current. I use as light as I can get away with and still maintain tactile contact with the bottom. My rod is a 6' St. Croix Premier, light / fast with a Daiwa Luvias 2500 spinning reel.
