Default Okuma AV 30 question

hello group.
This past winter I bought 3 spinning reels.the shimano 2500FH
Stradic--the DiawaCapricorn 2500A and the Okuma AV30 .All three seem
pretty evenly matched in terms of weight ,casting distance, drag and
retrieve speed[Capricorn is the slowest] and line size .The Okuma
seems to be a lot less free turning than the other two. Is this
stiftness normal for this reel or am I missing something???
All three reels were reccomended by members of the group so I thought
I'd ask
Thanks for your time
Ken

I'd try taking the reel apart, thoroughly cleaning it and re-lubing it with
quality lubricants. Everything that I've heard about Okuma has been good,
especially when the price is considered. It wouldn't surprise me if the
reel was stiffer than the others though.

Default Okuma AV 30 question

I've noticed that myself, but it never bothered me. I just figured that my
older reels had just become loose with age. I can spin my Shimano's handle
and the thing will spin twice as long as my Okuma, but then again, the Okuma
feels much smoother.

If you're worried about it, take it apart and soak all the bearings in
lighter fluid, then re-oil them with a quality oil. Just one or two drops of
oil is all it takes. More will just tend to attract dirt and clog it up
again.

The way I see it, the reel companies are just manufacturing them now with
tighter tolerances, in hopes that they will last longer. (Which to me is a
good thing!)

Default Okuma AV 30 question

Stiff is one thing, what about smoothness and play, especially under load.

I believe that stiffness is the least of these three reel "sins" and
typically reduces over time or with a proper lubrication.

Smoothness and play, especially under load, is typically here to stay.
