Pardon me if this has been discussed; been away for a while.
Has anybody had experience with the REC Recoil guides? If not, go to www.rec.com and check them out. My buddy Ryan at Waterloo build a spinning rod for me with the guides on a SCV 6ft8in MXF St. Croix blank. He shipped it in 3000 pound PVC, and UPS still managed to *buckle* the pipe. The rod, of course, shattered. So, now, he's building me another one, but this time I added and REC Aluminum reel seat and what they call a thumbtack. BTW, I have no affiliation with REC, I am just trying out their products for Ryan. Anyway, back to the original question, especially for the guys using spinning gear, have you tried the Recoil guides, or, after looking at them, what do you think? Word is they are hotter than Georgia asphalt ![]() -- Tight lines, Citizen Fisherman |

How so?
They look lighter than other singlefoots. I imagine that their special alloy is titanium-something, I'd be interested in knowing the service life before I laid out the $$. I have had the opportunity to examine these guides from REC. They are made
of a nickel plated spring steel. Not exactly what I would use on a custom rod. Might as well be using boat guides. JMHO! -- "The Shadow" Millennium Rods "The Citizen Fisherman" wrote in message . .. Might as well be using boat guides. JMHO! I just received some that I'm putting on a rod at the insistence of a client. I'm doing so with the understanding that he's the "guinea pig" and that we might be replacing the guides down the road. But he's ok with that. I'm not impressed with them at first examination. I doubt if they'll hold up well. -- Steve @ OutdoorFrontiers http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com G & S Guide Service and Custom Rods http://www.herefishyfishy.com |

Spring steel? Where did you get that?
The RECOIL (their caps, not mine) guides are nickel titanium alloy. I've actually seen them on a rod, albeit a broken one... They weigh practically nothing, so the overall rod weight goes down. The guides are becoming quite popular with Waterloo customers. Anyway, I think they are intriguing, and am anxious to try them out. As I said, I'll let you know... -- Tight lines, Citizen Fisherman On 6-Mar-2004, "\"The Shadow\"" wrote: I have had the opportunity to examine these guides from REC. A nickel titanium alloy, hhhmmm anyone ever broke a Terminator spinnerbait?
Oh and I see Michael that you are still a spokesperson for Waterloo rods. Still not what I would put on a "custom" rod , but then Waterloo isn't really building custom rods , now are they? -- "The Shadow" Millennium Rods "The Citizen Fisherman" wrote in message . .. What did I do to **** you off???
I am not a spokesperson for Waterloo, but Ryan is a friend of mine, and I like their rods. From time to time, I volunteer to be his guinea pig. I hate petty bull**** like this in these newsgroups. I have done nothing to disparage you, and I'm entitled to my opinion. -- Tight lines, Citizen Fisherman On 7-Mar-2004, "\"The Shadow\"" wrote: A nickel titanium alloy, hhhmmm anyone ever broke a Terminator spinnerbait?
