Padishar (I think) mentioned the Pam cooking spray for the guides. For the line, well, if it's that icy, I'd say just go home before you false cast and it shatters... Or you could try running it through some absorbent material as you reel in each time. Cotton or wool or sheepskin, maybe with a bit of Albolene on it. I'd guess (uneducated guess) that you'd not want to make the line warmer. It'd get cold again as soon as it got in the water. This could easily lead to plastic fatigue, known as cracks and checking of the line. Not a good thing. I know you've taken to fishing in a way that I never will, though I do enjoy it, but your winter will not last long. On the really ugly days take a clue from me and huddle over your heat vent, typing on your computer and snarling at the weather. Do some extra credit projects for your courses. I have the feeling that you could really get into tying flies. This is a good thing to do in the cold weather. Cyli r.bc: vixen. Minnow goddess. Speaker to squirrels. Often taunted by trout.
