Indiana man catches bass - News at 11:00 (long)

Hi guys...
Just got back from a trip to Georgia. Because I'm still waiting for my
boat to come in, thought I was going to be in for a rough several days of
bank fishing. It's been so cold here in Indiana, haven't even had a chance
to get a line wet. Couldn't let the mild weather of Georgia go to waste!
We arrived to 83 degree weather on Saturday evening. This was looking
good. Woke up to weather in the 30's the next morning, with a high expected
in the mid-60's. Oh, and 30 mph winds. My son and I went fishing at a bend
in the Chatahoochee River north of Atlanta, in Roswell. The wind was
blowing so hard....well, let's just say it was blowing hard enugh to make
even shoreline fishing a real challenge. The shoreline thing wasn't working
out to well. A nice fella in a Port-a-bote offered us a ride, but I was a
little leary with the wind blowing so hard. The weather felt colder then
the low 60's.
Day two arrived, evening colder then the first. Decided we would drive
to Allatoona and try a little shoreline action there. Must say, my son was
extremely patient, but we were still unable to connect, and the wind had to
be at least in the mid 20's. Found a couple nicely sheltered bays, but I
don't think the temp got over 55. Cold front officially on top of us.
Then comes day three of my little Georgia fishing adventure... With the
very kind help of our own Ronnie Garrison, I not only got to fish West Point
Lake from a boat, but got to spend the day with a very knowledgable
fisherman and a great guy. Got to catch a few bass as a bonus.
The day started slowly, with the wind whipping around us pretty good and
the temps somewhere in the low 30's. Now being from the frozen north, I am
pretty accustomed to this as a normal spring morning, temp wise, but Ronnie
and I were both expecting the worst when we launched the boat around 8:00am.
This cold snap had been on us for a good day to day and a half, so I wasn't
exactly sure that we would see action on the lake, much less the end of the
line. We fished a good part of the morning until around 11:00 - 11:30 (I
wasn't wearing a watch) I was finally able to hook up with a nice 2lb 9oz
spotted bass near a main lake point. Seemed to be relating to a submerged
stump. This at least got the blood pumping in the boat. Ronnie had a
little guy on down the same stretch of bank leading into a cut, but nothing
to really speak of. Just another clue that not all the fish had lockjaw.
We caught a few more as the day rolled on, including a 2lb largemouth boated
by Ronnie, and a couple of shorter fish mixed in. The wind seemed to
constantly be changing direction and softening throughout the day. It was
kinda unusual.
Comparing the results to our expectations, I think you could safely say
we had a pretty decent day. Didn't have a real solid pattern emerge, but
those Georgia fish sure do like brightly colored crankbaits...

.....and thanks again to Ronnie. I was in need of a tug on the end of the
line in a bad way, and I appreciate you helping out a fellow ROFB'er!
