Well, now that all the hubbub has died down from the Mid-Tennessee, it's

once again time to look

ahead to the NWC.

It's going to be a little different this year. First of all, the date

being held the weekend after Labor Day as it has in the past.

This year, the dates are August 26 and 27. I changed the dates for

several reasons. First of all,

I thought that with many schools starting just before/after Labor Day,

that if we moved the date

ahead somewhat, there might be some father/mother/son/daughter teams

attending without school

getting in the way.

Secondly, after hearing some sniveling about "no bass in Boom Lake", I

decided to move the tourney

to Lake Mohawksin, my very favorite smallmouth lake. There has always

been a bass tournament on

Lake Mohawksin the same weekend as the traditional NWC, so by moving up

the date, we get first crack

at the lake. This is a quality smallmouth fishery and if you can't
catch

fish on Lake Mohawksin,

you might as well take up golf.

And finally, I'm going to be in Wyoming, at the top of a mountain,
chasing

elk for my television

show. Last year I had to go later in the year and missed the elk
rutting

season, thus having a nice

3,000 mile round trip sightseeing tour. While I enjoy hiking in the

mountains, it's hard to make an

elk hunting show without the elk. Hence the tourney is getting moved.

This move to a different lake will really change things very little. We

will still have The

Claridge Best Western Motor Lodge as the headquarters. Everyone seems
to

like it there, we get

special pricing for the event and it's convenient for the rest of the

festivities. We will still

have dinner Thursday night at The Pub, Friday night we will descend like

locusts on The Al-Gen for

the BEST Friday Night Fish Fry on the planet and Saturday night we'll

still have the award

ceremony/feast at my place.

The major change is that we'll have to get a move on earlier in the

morning because there'll be a 25

minute drive to the landing.

So mark your calendars for August 26 and 27. As in the past,
pre-fishing

is always allowed and even

encouraged. Remember that this is similar water to Boom Lake as it is a

dammed up impoundment of

the Wisconsin River. It is roughly the same in size, somewhere around

1,800 acres and water color

is stained. There are thick weeds, lily pads, wild rice, stumps, rocks,

flats, shallows, relatively

deep water and something for everyone. There are some largemouth in the

lake, but I've only caught

on four pounder last year. Like I said, this will be a smallmouth

tournament.

The event is open to all participating members of the ROFB and

OutdoorFrontiers.com so if you hang

out here, you're welcome to attend.

It's a fun event, with lots of stories, laughter, fun and fishing. What

better way to spend a long

weekend?

Mark your calendars and plan on coming to the Rhinelander/Tomahawk

Wisconsin area in August.

Steve, I recently did a small tournament for an on-line community.
What I
did was pick the body of water and then check all the local club
tournament
schedules. I selected all other dates that were open and then posted a
poll
on my website to let people select the dates that were best for them.
It
was marked to "select all dates that would be open for you." Then we
picked
the date that the most people were able to attend. We still had a
couple
people who could not make it do to scheduling conflicts, but all of
those
who really really wanted to be there were able to make it. Perhaps
something like that might be in order. You can't please everybody, but
you
might be able to get the most of the people that way. Just a
suggestion.

Or just let the host pick the dates that work for him. No date is
gonna be good for everybody.
