I troll for little boys

I know that most tournaments do not allow it, but there are derbies that allow any legal fishing tactic, and of course it could be used before a tournament for locating likely migration routes. Hi all, during the coldest part of winter here in central florida I often troll open water in some of the local lakes that don't have floating weeds. I use a solo canoe, two baitcasters with different color hi vis line, two rod holders mounted well back of the seat (to stay out of the way of the paddle) two small fat crank baits and a lot of line. Using a small hand held GPS I have found that running about 1 to 1.5 MPH does the trick. I find bass and huge crappie on cold days most would not bother to go out. Not sure why the long line does the trick, maybe the wobble of the crank bait sends virbration down the line that causes the slow fish to wander over to see what's going on. I find it a fun way to spend a cold morning and get some good excerise at the same time. Later, DC -- Dale Colemam |
