Aside from the political updates and bickering, I do find this newsgroup to
be helpful at times. Last week I posted a need for a rod sock, and Tim J. came though for one, with a link to LL Bean. I have heard about the company through others who were pleased with their service and products, but this is the first time I ordered anything from them. I got my package within four days after placing the order. I expected to get a flimsy cheap rod sock, something less of what, say Orvis, Winston or Sage would put out today. The material is slightly heavier than the leading rod manufactures use, and the stitching is very precise. There is even a pocket on the folding part of the sock enclosure, and a string to keep the form once the rod is placed inside. Not bad for $7.00 and change. Roff'ns have expressed that perhaps a rod sock could be made by DIY, but I'll have to say, for the time and effort, plus materials to equal the LL Bean product, it probably won't be worth the effort. Links to the actual LL Bean Rod Sock I purchased: http://home.comcast.net/~tomnak/LL_B...d_sock_002.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~tomnak/LL_B...d_sock_005.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~tomnak/LL_B...d_sock_006.jpg -tom |
