feathers and tying flys with them

just going to start tying today to get ready for this spring - i have a
stock of flys - "store bought" - shame- having never tyed anything
but my shoes can anyone help - i have a snow goose but don't know which
feathers to keep or what to do with them ido have a book by Royce Dam
to help but about those feathers and other parts of animals i
harvest where can a guy info on that how to keep it what to take how
to use it
