Ok, Day 2 of the NWC, Thunder Lake, near the first Island, Thunder,
lightning, rain, wind and about 50 degrees. Scott and I were fishing some Arrowheads, and I made a pitch with my plastic worm. I felt a little rap and set the hook only to see about a 15" northern pike come screaming out of the weeds with my hook through his nose. As Scott grabbed the net, I eased the fish around the side of the boat about to swing him in with a "big" golden flash consumes my little northern and takes off for deeper water. I proceeded to slam back on the rod again, thinking maybe I would punch the hook into this musky. The fish is huge (Scott witnessed all of this, and estimated the fish to be about 45", and very deep) and pulling drag again my bait caster. I finally get the fish to turn towards the boat, but by doing that the musky proceeded to open his mouth, and here comes my little 15" northern screaming back towards the boat, so immediately I released the bail on my bait caster and where does the dumb little ******* go, right back towards the musky! I closed the bail, and when to feel the fish and suddenly BANG, he took it again, so I set the hook once again only to come back with just line!!! The musky took my pike, my worm, my hook, and most of all my last black 1/4 ounce bullet weight. Seriously though, and Scott can attest to this, I couldn't stop talking about it for rest of the day, and this happened about 11am or so (maybe a little later, turns out I am not very good at time keeping). So that is the Musky story, it was one hell of an experience for me, and just one of those things that can happen up there. Chris |
