Default Breaking hair???

Hi everyone,

I was tying some Black Elk Hair Caddis today. Took some hair from a
piece of Elk Skin that I bought way back when I started tying. The funny
thing his, maybe not so funny, all hairs were coming off the skin and
were so brittle you could not handle them without breaking them. OK,
that piece of Elk was at least 10 years old, but it's the first time
this happens to me and I have skins and feather that are has old if not
older than this piece. It was kept in my tying chest, which is made of
cherry, and in a ziploc bag to protect and keep from drying.

Has it ever happen to any of you guys?

Thank you for your time and patience.
