Default Sorta on-topic...alt. power sources

Something potentially interesting for those looking for alternative
power sources.

We recently replaced some workstation UPCs due to age and battery
condition, so I decided to do some experimenting. I "tested" several
with a larger deep-cycle battery (in this case, a small boat's marine
deep cycle) to see how they would perform as a "conditioned power"
inverter. I found that the Proxima model that we have worked as-is, by
simply attaching appropriate wire between the larger battery and the
leads for the small internal gelcell. Of the APC branded units, none
would easily "cold start" and some can't cold start at all. IAC, just
some thoughts for those looking to set up a alternative 12vdc/120vac
power source.

TC,
R
