Well, with Penn's looming, I figured some casting practice might be a good
idea, so it was off to the Local Trickle for a few hours on Monday afternoon. Now, mind you, a week previous I was driving to work and seeing snow plows. Yesterday, it was 87 degrees out. With the warm temperatures came serious wind, as will happen in the spring. Hardly ideal for graceful casting, but I managed to get a few casts in. Within the first 5 minutes, a cooperative brown hit a grannom wet fly. It was roughly a hour before I could find a second slow-witted member of the population. All in all, I only took 3 fish, catching the third on the trip back upstream to the car on a Coyote Ugly. Very few flies in the air or on the water, and very little in the way of public displays by the trout, who were probably pounded over the past weekend, and thus in hiding. Still, it felt good to be out, got the juices flowing, and prepared my reflexes for 5 days in Penn's valley. Tom |
