I was mowing my lawn this morning when Brown dropped off two packages.
I was expecting one, but not today. I had ordered an Orvis fishing vest. I hadn't expected it for a couple of days, so it's arrival the day before a scheduled lesson on one of Michigan's better trout streams was fortuitous. But, the other package was a complete mystery. By the return address, I knew a friend I met on another NG had sent it. Inside was a beautiful book of pictures and essays entitled "Voelker's Pond." It describes the special space carved out of the Michigan wilderness by a man who was a renown trout fisher, a Michigan Supreme Court Justice and author of several tomes on trout fishing, as well as a book entitled "Anatomy of a Murder." It was signed by the author of the essays - A relative of my friend! Every once in a while, one is provided with a convergence of events which one can either shrug off as an interesting coincidence, or see as some sort of divine validation of one's choices. As I sit here in the space I've carved out for myself, surrounded by the glorious emergence of spring, and paging through this incredible gift, I can't help but thank Bill for this incredible gift, and to marvel at the timing. Gotta score some of the Judge's favorite flys ... -- BG |
