Default TR: Two words, Hatchery truck.

Not much of an attempt at a first trip report, but Ken was right in his
above post, until others tune in with better reports from Penns, here goes:
My wife finally let me spend a whole day on the Muskegon Saturday. Plenty of
trout feeding on salmon fry, steelhead and sucker eggs. The stocker rainbows
ate nonstop all day. Indiscriminate in their appetites, they ate anything
and everything offered to them.
With few bugs on the water and in the air, I started with a caddis
pattern (caddis have been very heavy on the lower end of the river the last
few days, although not up near the gravel). The caddis was destroyed within
an hour. What the hell, try to match the few mayflies next. Same thing.
Plenty of small, 6-8" fish everywhere I cast.
Fished streamer patterns and nymphs behind the steelhead and sucker
redds with just a little less action. The suckers were so thick that in some
places the entire river bottom seemed to move.
After nine hours on the river, and a forgotten number of trout caught
and released, I headed back up river to the launch, only to find the
hatchery truck blocking the launch as it dumped more stocker rainbows into
the river. July and Agust should be good months for stocker fishing up
there.
