July 3 was probably one of the nicest July days on record in western
Massachusetts. Beautifully sunny, low humidity, mild temperatures, and rolling puffy clouds. These were the kind of clouds with which you could play "I see a . . . bunny rabbit!" Fortunately for me, the stars and good weather aligned with my ability to grab a day off from work at the same time Bill Claspy sent one of his roaming Ohio friends this way by the name of Mark. Keep in mind that when Bill came out this way for a visit, the local roffian force gathered so we could show the great abundance of nice, fat rainbow trout in the area. Bill caught one trout. . . and stayed atop the leader board with that stat for the entire day. This time it was a quest. Not just any run-of-the-mill quest, but a "beat the pants off of Bill" quest. Mark succeeded, while (in typical host fashion) I caught zilch. We both had a great time, though, and Mark caught one of the most spectacularly colored rainbow trout I can ever remember seeing. We were able to meet up with fisherman-extraordinaire, George Adams who, once again, caught fish in places other fishermen couldn't. Mark and I fished until it got too dark to see, with Mark pulling up five or six *very* nice fish. The only bad part of the day was that Mark had to rush back to Boston for some family obligations, so we were unable to toast the day's success. The really cool thing about all this is I was able to fish with another new friend because of this medium. Thanks, Bill, for sending one helluva nice guy out my way. It made a grand excuse for ditching work and leaving those troubles behind for a while. -- TL, Tim ------------------------- http://css.sbcma.com/timj |
