wrote: Ok - new to this carp fishing game. went to a day ticket place (Fennes in Braintree Essex. (Hill and black Sorry, don't know it. pond)) and blanked two evenings on the trot. Everyone does from time to time. Tried boilies with PVA bagged pellets on a helicopter rig. (about 6-8 freebie boilies and a couple of dozen pellets in each bag) tried hair rigged luncheon meat. (chucked out some freebie bits of meat in a PVA bag too) tried floating dog biscuits.. (they ate every one bar the one with the hook in it) Complicated: Q. What does all that mean in English? A. It means you've been reading too much and not watching the fish. how would you recommend a newcomer to carp fishing go about getting 'em on the bank. I use one rod.. Wise should I be fishing the deep water? the margins? Where are they feeding? Fish there. am I not giving enough freebies? No idea. Maybe you're using too many. OK. Keep it simple until you find you need the extras. Start with bread and worms. Tie a #6 hook to the end of the reel line, nothing else. If the fish are grubbing the bottom hook a worm by the middle and drop it just in front of the fish. Don't scare it. Watch where the line cuts the surface for signs of a bite. If they are patrolling the surface or the extreme margins drop in half a dozen or so breadcrusts close to the downwind banks where they will drift hard into emergent or overhanging vegetation. Watch for signs of fish taking them. Get into a position where you can -lower- a crust baited hook into a similar position. Keep all the line off the surface but hold a foot of loose line which you release to the fish if you get a take. As soon as the loose line has gone strike and hold hard. It's wise to wear waterproof clothing for this method. If they are among lilypads or if there are too many ducks about for crust fishing pinch a large breadflake on the hook and drop it against a lilly so that the line runs over the top and holds the bait a few inches below the surface (you can do this with other surface vegetation too) Watch the line on the lily for bites, hit and hold here too, you mustn't let them get their heads down. Throw the occasional flake into gaps between the lillies as free samples. (While beginning) If you cannot see what the carp are doing - go elsewhere and fish for something else. Cheerio, -- |
