Greetings all! I haven't been fishing since I was much younger (probably been 15 years or more). I'd like to try and get back into it but have no idea what kind of rod and reel to buy. I'm just looking for something good for a beginner to use at ponds, lakes, etc. Any advice? Thanks! This depends on several factors, including what you want to fish for, and how much you are willing to spend. I would say a medium action rod & reel combo that can take from 8 - 12 pound line test. You can get these fairly cheap at Wal-Mart and similar stores. I personally would recommend the Shakespeare set for about $15. It's a good all around rod & reel that comes with lures that are good for Panfish, Crappy and the occasional Bass. I like mine so much that I am thinking about getting a second one! There are many rods and reels for just about every type of fish. -- Jim M posted on this day, the 3957th of September 1993 To reply by e-mail catch the ZZZZZZ's in my addy... "I love deadlines.
