Default stell leaders

Hi,
Does anyone have any suggestions about casting sal****er flies with
steel leaders. I bought some thin 10 inch leaders with swivel type clasps at
the ends but when I use them I can't get any distance - like half of what I
get with just a fly. I was wondering if I should try say 100 lb mono in
some sort of twisted configuration. I haven't tried something like that yet.
Perhaps a bluefish can bite through 100 lb mono as easily as 10 lb.

thanks,

CW
