Default New to fishing

I have recently started fishing - using a borrowed rod, mostly been
going with my m8s to the local river, (Black Cart - I live in
Scotland) and although we havent caught anything, I still want to take
it up. I am looknig for advice, my Dad, used to fish so he can teach
me how to fis, properly, but he hasnt fished in a long time, so isnt
uptodate with the gear nowadays.
In the local river, the better one supposedly (gryffe). There are, Sea
Trout, Salmon and some Brown trout.

Could you suggest what is the best gear (rods etc) to buy for river
fishing. I think I will mainly be using lures, I think !?
