indian joe opines----have been lucky enough to fish with some pretty
accurate casters around North Carolina but never saw anyone cast for distance until I attended Penns Clave last summer and the Swede tried to help me with my casting. He could put the fly way out there and even said his 12 year old son could cast out the full line!!!! I tried to explain to him that most of our creeks are only 12 to 15 foot wide and all I would catch with a long cast would be a tree. Just today I learned that a local fisherman has won the world casting championship. He won when he threw the second longest cast ever recorded by an American caster. It was 18 inches off the record for Americans at 819 feet. Course he was not fly fishing but using a 14foot 8inch rod he built himself, and a 5oz sinker. Next time I see him I will ask if he uses a strike indicator? |
