Survey: Which Artificial Bait?

If you went to a new lake and could only use ONE artificial bait/lure; which
would it be and how would you present it?

On bait. Hmmm.... I'ld probably go with a weedless jigging spoon with a
soft worm trailer.

The reason for that bait is that I could modify it to just the hook and worm
for a weightless presentation, or use the whole thing to fish deep humps and
pockets, or I could flip it into heavy cover.

Since you are limiting me to one bait I'll make the wild assumption of only
one rod as well and say I'ld probably go with a medium or medium heavy
spinning rod spooled with 15LB fluorocarbon as a compromise for most
conditions and fly in the face of those who say you can't flip heavy cover
with spinning tackle. Of course since I'ld only have the one bait I'ld try
working the edges of any cover first, and I'ld retie often.

A Middle N Bill Norman Professional Edge Crankbait in Blue/Chartreuse color
combo.

I would pitch it around shoreline cover or docks, throw it over points, run
it down any rip rap I could find, along any bridge pilings, run it across
submerged grass and down the edge of emergent grass lines. Maybe even run
it across some shallow flats. I'd fish it extremely fast, extremely slow and
everything in between. (starting to sound a bit like Dr Seuss :-)

I find crankbaits to be a lot more versatile then they're given credit for.

I'm pretty confident I would catch something! :-)

Hmm! Only one lure! Probably a 3/8 or 1/2 oz tandem bladed spinner bait in
chartruse/white color.
Reason is that one can cover the entire water column using various retrieves
from buzzing the surface to slow rolling deep structure. Would work well
through just about any cover without hanging up badly. The chartruse/white
color would cover just about any water clarity from clear to muddy.
T-rigged blue fleck plastic worm would be my second choice.

I'll have to take a 5" Senko.

A couple bags of 5" Senkos, an assortment of bullet weights, some EWG, Wacky
and straight shank hooks and I'm good to go about anywhere. Fast or slow, deep
or shallow, cover or none, this bait will do it.

Besides, it'll be a good follow-up bait behind Andrew's Norman crankbait. ;-)

Everyone who knows me, knows I will reach down and grab an Old Style Bomber
6A Firetiger as my first go to bait always. I fish it everywhere. Even on
bare banks with 70 foot of water under the boat. It has taken it's biggest
bass on mainlake laydowns.

If I could only take only lure out, I'd use a 1/2 oz. Secret Weapon
spinnerbait set up with tandem blades, one willow, one colorado.

That way, I'd have at least three different looks that I could throw at the
fish. Plus, with this lure, I can fish from shallow to deep and everything
in between. Open water or around cover, I can still use the lure too.
